ed un successo straordinari. Non c'\u00e8 da stupirsi: \u00e8 versatile, bello a vedersi, strutturalmente resistente, si pu\u00f2 impiegare come rivestimento o come elemento portante, per una facciata o una scala come per una piccola targa esterna.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\\n\n\n<p cid=\\\"n93\\\" mdtype=\\\"paragraph\\\" class=\\\"md-end-block md-p\\\"><span md-inline=\\\"plain\\\" class=\\\"md-plain\\\">Le sue caratteristiche sono la resistenza alla corrosione ed alla trazione: \u00e8 un materiale a basso contenuto di lega (in origine 0.2-0,5% di rame, 0,5-1,5% di cromo e 0,1-0,2% di fosforo). Non \u00e8 recente, il brevetto risale al 1933, opera dell\u2019azienda americana United States Steel Corporation (U.S.S.). Impiegato inizialmente per rivestire cisterne e carrozze per il trasporto di merci, aveva una durata fino a 4 volte maggiore dell'acciaio al carbonio.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\\n\n\n<p cid=\\\"n94\\\" mdtype=\\\"paragraph\\\" class=\\\"md-end-block md-p\\\"><span md-inline=\\\"plain\\\" class=\\\"md-plain\\\">Ma dobbiamo all'architetto Eero Saarinen la prima applicazione in edilizia come acciaio strutturale, nel 1964 al Centro Direzionale della John Deere and Co. in Illinois.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\\n\n\n<p cid=\\\"n95\\\" mdtype=\\\"paragraph\\\" class=\\\"md-end-block md-p\\\"><span md-inline=\\\"plain\\\" class=\\\"md-plain\\\">L'acciaio corten si autoprotegge dalla corrosione elettrochimica: durante l'ossidazione rilascia una polvere di ossidi degli elementi in lega che patinano la superficie, composta da uno strato esterno poroso e uno strato interno molto sottile e impermeabile, ricco di rame, cromo e fosforo.
